FROM PLAN TO PRACTICAL ACTION
How Go Prepare Works
Start with your situation
Go Prepare helps people throughout the UK make practical preparations for everyday emergencies, travel disruptions and longer-term resilience. Begin by choosing the situations relevant to your household—not by buying an expensive kit.
1. Build My Plan — one free questionnaire
Start with Build My Plan. It asks relevant questions about your household, the people and pets you care for, your intended timeframe, the situations you want to cover and the equipment you already own. Use the results to identify gaps, distinguish personal kits from shared supplies and prioritise sensible next steps. An account or purchase is not required.
Some advanced calculations and records are separate optional tools, such as the Food Reserve Planner, Water Planning Guide and Equipment Maintenance Planner. They do not automatically synchronise with your main plan.
2. Read guidance for your actual scenario
Use the UK Emergency Scenarios library and practical guides to learn the important considerations for power cuts, severe weather, water interruptions, communications failures, first aid, travel and household supply problems. Where services or regulations differ across the UK nations, use the official information relevant to your location.
3. Check what you already own before shopping
Inspect existing torches, chargers, warm clothing, food, water, essential documents and maintenance needs. An ordinary household item or a safe improvement may be more appropriate than specialist equipment. Read our independent advice approach and how we assess equipment.
4. Maintain your plan
Practise useful skills, update family contacts, rotate supplies and check equipment on a routine that fits your household. Print or export your own plan where supported and keep an accessible offline copy.
When can I buy equipment?
Our online equipment range is still being prepared, and ordering has not launched. The shop will make availability and verified product information clear before sales begin. The planning tools and guides remain useful without any purchase.
Go Prepare’s content is general preparedness information, not an emergency response service or a guarantee of safety. In a real incident, follow official guidance and emergency-service instructions.
